Aaron Hewlett received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science at Utah Valley University. Working at the crossroads of technology and medicine, Dr. Harrison is board certified in Vascular and Interventional Radiology as well as Diagnostic Radiology. He specializes in the most advanced minimally invasive procedures medicine has to offer, treating a wide variety of patients with peripheral arterial disease, uterine fibroids, benign prostatic hyperplasia, venous disease, and various malignancies of the liver, lungs, and kidneys. He enjoys helping patients by accessing the most remote areas of the body via tiny incisions and utilizing the vascular system as a highway to those areas, enabling amazing results with minimal pain and downtime.

In the emergency setting, Dr. Harrison is highly trained in acute stroke intervention and embolectomy, gastrointestinal and mesenteric artery embolization, and pain interventions including vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty.

After obtaining a degree in Economics at Brigham Young University, Dr. Harrison obtained his medical degree at the Chicago Medical School. He then completed his internship in medicine and surgery at Tucson Hospitals Medical Education Program. His residency in Diagnostic Radiology was completed at Oregon Health and Science University. After residency, Dr. Harrison completed a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the birthplace of interventional radiology, the Dotter Institute of Interventional Radiology at Oregon Health and Science University.

Jason Henrie, APRN, FNP-BC

Jason received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Utah Valley University and completed a Master of Science in the Family nurse practitioner program at Brigham Young University. He is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the American College of Phlebology. He is professionally certified in basic life support, pediatric advanced life support and advanced cardiac life support.

Jason’s past work experience includes coordinating care for post myocardial infarction and post angiography patients in a 17 bed cardiac intensive care unit at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He is an experienced charge nurse coordinating staff and patient assignments, and responding to hospital emergencies as a team lead. He is currently certified on Intra Aortic Balloon Pump and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy.

His primary area of focus in the vein center is new patient consultations and coordinating care for established patients. He also works in the hospital with the Interventional Radiologists performing procedures including joint injections, lumbar punctures, PICC lines, paracentesis, thoracentesis and thyroid biopsies.

Kelly Thorpe, APRN, FNP-C

Kelly received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Utah and completed a Master’s of Science degree in the Family Nurse Practitioner program. He is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American College of Phelbology. He is also professionally certified in pediatric advanced life support, advanced cardiac life support, and basic life support. Kelly’s work experience includes coordinating care of post-operative open heart patients at LDS Hospital in the Thoracic Intensive Care Unit (TICU), requiring him tand mechanical cardiac support.

He also worked in the medical/surgical ICU at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, where he was in charge of coordinating care of critically ill patients. His primary area of focus in the vein center is new patient consultations, which include varicose veins, pelvic congestion syndrome, and uterine fibroid embolization. In addition he also coordinates care for established patients.

Dr. Matthew E. Nokes is fellowship trained in interventional radiology. His expertise includes treatment of disorders of the arterial and venous circulation and acute stroke intervention. Dr. Nokes is skilled in such areas as carotid stenting, catheter directed local-regional cancer therapy, cerebral aneurysm treatment, intracranial angioplasty, and DVT therapy.

Dr. Ryan Nielsen is board certified by The American Board of Radiology. He graduated magna cum laude from Pacific University (Forest Grove, OR) in 1991. He attended the Creighton University School of Medicine (Omaha, NE), from which he graduated magna cm laude in 1995, and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. He did an internship in Internal Medicine at Creighton University/St. Joseph’s Affiliated Hospitals. Dr. Nielsen’s residency training was in Diagnostic Radiology at Duke University Medical Center (Durham, NC), which he completed in 2000. As a resident, he received the Award for Excellence in Neuroradiology, the Resident Teaching Award, and served as chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. Nielsen’s areas of specific professional interest and expertise include treatment of venous disorders, arteriography, treatment of acute stroke, vertebroplasty, pain management, aortic stent graft placement, vascular and dialysis access.

Dr. Daniel Hatch’s primary professional areas of focus are in the latest techniques of minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of disease (vascular and nonvascular). He is highly trained and instructs in both laser and radiofrequency procedures. These state-of–the-art procedures are minimally invasive ways to treat varicose veins. Dr. Hatch’s expertise includes treatment of disorders of the arterial and venous circulation, acute stroke intervention, uterine fibroid embolization for the treatment of uterine fibroids as well as spine interventions for pain management including vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty of acute vertebral body compression fractures. Dr. Hatch is fellowship-trained and board certified in interventional radiology.

Dr. Hatch graduated from the University of Utah College of Medicine and received numerous awards including the top research award at the Western Neurological Society. He then completed his Internship in Medicine at the same institution and was elected as one of the top Interns of the Year. Dr. Hatch filled a residency in radiology followed by a fellowship in vascular intervention at Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. John S. Collins is fellowship-trained and board certified in interventional radiology. Dr. Collins’s areas of expertise include uterine fibroid embolization, vertebroplasty, stent placements, treatment of superficial venous insufficiency and catheter-directed thrombolysis.

Dr. Carl Black’s primary professional areas of focus include interventional radiology and neuroradiology. His expertise includes treatment of disorders of the arterial and venous circulation, acute stroke intervention, carotid artery stenting, therapeutic embolization (i.e. oncologic, vascular malformations, post traumatic bleeding), treatment of superficial venous insufficiency and catheter-directed thrombolysis. He also performs spine intervention for pain management, including treatment of vertebral body compression fractures. Dr. Black is fellowship-trained with board certifications in interventional radiology and neuroradiology.

Dr. Black graduated from the George Washington University (GWU) School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He then completed a transitional internship at Georgetown University followed by residency in diagnostic radiology at GWU where he served as Chief Resident and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. Dr. Black then trained as a fellow in neuroradiology at the Barrow Neurological Institute and in interventional radiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Dr. Black has published and presented many original peer-reviewed scientific articles on diagnostic and interventional radiology. As a fellow in interventional radiology he was awarded the Memorial Gold Medal Research Award by the Association of University Radiologists for his research of carbon dioxide as an intravascular contrast agent. Following four years in the US Air Force, Dr. Black joined Utah Radiology Associates. He is a member of the Society of Interventional Radiology and a senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology.
